Seed Swap & Potluck! Feb. 8

Take off your gloves and let your green thumbs out....

---

I wanted to invite you to come to the 1st annual All-Gardener Seed Swap and Potluck on Feb. 8th at 6pm.

Often times a packet of seeds contains many more seeds than a gardener needs in a year, and buying one seed packet of every type of vegetable we want to grow can break the bank.

The solution?  A Seed Swap!

Bring a dish to share and a packet of seeds (more if you like).  We’ll be dividing up the seeds into smaller packets, and sharing them among those who come.  Come with one kind of seed – leave with many!  We’ll also provide some information on starting plants from seed, and an opportunity to see old friends and make new ones.

Hope you can make it!

Please save the date and time – location will be announced in a couple days.

This is a picture of the beautiful pickles I made from Duris (Puyallup Valley) cucumbers this past fall.  These were refrigerator pickles, which are great; however, I was too nervous to attempt to make them otherwise.  If only I'd been able to attend a class like...

What a deal?!  Run with your sweetie (or maybe find a sweetie ;) while helping raise money for the Gig Harbor FISH Food Bank and Healthy Communities of Pierce County (HCPC), http://www.healthypierce.org/.  HCPC is a great local organization, "... composed of various community groups. These groups evaluate conditions in a specific community then develop and implement projects to improve opportunities for active living and healthy eating in that community."  HCPC is a fantastic champion of connecting Pierce County eaters with local and healthy foods.  The Gig Harbor FISH Food Bank is also an amazing local non-profit helping folks access good food, http://gigharborpeninsulafish.com/about.html.

So, mark your calendar and get your run on for good food and healthy people!  Details and how to register on this attached flyer.

The Economics of Happiness Film in Seattle - Jan. 11

(Wow.  "The Economics of Happiness" film should be really great.  Helena Norberg-Hodge came to the Tilth Producers of WA conference a couple years ago and was really amazing.  If you can't make it to Seattle on Jan. 11, I have emailed ISEC to see how to host a showing here in Tacoma/Pierce County. Will let folks know if it's possible and how to get involved.)

Excerpts from email from the International Society for Ecology and Culture...

Please join us for a special screening of ISEC Director Helena Norberg-Hodge’s new documentary film, “The Economics of Happiness”, which illuminates the worldwide movement for economic localization. We are launching the film in North America with events in Seattle, Berkeley, Portland, Toronto, Garrison (NY), and New York City.

If you can’t attend one of the launch events, there are other ways to be involved (see below).

“The Economics of Happiness” is a call, from every continent, for systemic economic change.  Among the voices in the film are Vandana Shiva, David Korten, Michael Shuman, Richard Heinberg, Rob Hopkins, Juliet Schor, Zac Goldsmith, Bill McKibben, and Samdhong Rinpoche, Prime Minister of the Tibetan government in exile. Each screening will be followed by a presentation or panel discussion with Helena Norberg-Hodge and other special guests. ...
